PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable coating in a mechanism for coating a recording medium with a liquid which causes the ink used in an inkjet recording device to be condensed or insolubilized even when the coating liquid is newly supplied without causing uneven coating caused by it. SOLUTION: When the presence of cartridge is detected to determine that a coating liquid cartridge is attached (S301), the liquid coating mechanism is driven with the coating target sheet not present (S302). In other words, all the rollers of a coating unit are rotated. As a result, each roller rotates while the roller surface is caused to be wet by fresh coating liquid, and the cleaning effect of the roller surface can be increased. At the same time, mixing and agitation of the concentrated liquid and fresh coating liquid in a coating liquid tank by a pumping roller is accelerated, and the concentration or viscosity of the coating liquid in the coating tank is caused to be uniform.
