In the method for automated access control of air passengers in airports, the boarding card which is carried by the air passengers is evaluated. The data which is recorded as a barcode on the boarding card is read at a gate w ith a barcode reader. A central database is used to check whether a blocking note is stored for the respective boarding card. If this is not the case, t he release device of the gate opens. As soon as the passenger has passed thr ough the gate, a blocking note is placed on the boarding card and stored in the database.
