PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of obtaining an effect equal to that of soft focus photographing by photographing a focused image and non-focused image, performing positioning and combining them, and an imaging method. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus comprises: an imaging part for detecting the focus position of an object on the basis of the images of the object successively formed on the image forming surface of an imaging element through an imaging optical system; a memory 134 for storing the images of the object successively outputted from the imaging element when detecting the focus position; an effect setting part 158 for setting the prescribed number of desired non-focus degrees to the focus position beforehand; and an image composition part 118 for reading the image of the focus position and the images corresponding to the respective non-focus degrees set in the effect setting part 158 from the memory 134 and positioning and combining the plurality of images including the image of the focus position.
