PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope system capable of displaying a site observed under a first light condition in a monitor as if the observation is performed under a second light condition. SOLUTION: A signal (R<SB>out</SB>, G<SB>out</SB>, B<SB>out</SB>) imaged by a camera 11 under the first light 10 for illuminating the inside of the living body (a subject 1) is changed into an image signal (X'<SB>1</SB>, Y'<SB>1</SB>, Z'<SB>1</SB>) of a color space independent of a device based on the characteristic information on the first light 10, the camera 11 and the living body (subject 1) at a camera color changing part 12. The characteristic information on this living body is calculated from spectral reflection factors of several points in the living body. Additionally, the image signal (X'<SB>1</SB>, Y'<SB>1</SB>, Z'<SB>1</SB>) is changed into an image signal (X'<SB>2</SB>, Y'<SB>2</SB>, Z'<SB>2</SB>) of a color space independent of a device under the second light means environment from the characteristic information of the second light means recorded beforehand. Further it is changed into an image signal (R<SB>in</SB>, G<SB>in</SB>, B<SB>in</SB>) of a color space dependent on the monitor 15 based on the characteristic information of the color space of the monitor 15 recorded beforehand.
