PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cushioning material able to decrease problems resulting from an original shape of a cocoon shell while providing excellent features such as moisture absorbing/releasing properties and heat insulating properties inherent in a cocoon. SOLUTION: The cushioning materials 2 are housed inside a futon, a pillow or the like and consist of a plurality of the cocoon shells 1. Each shell 1 having an approximately oval shape and a specified thickness H is so pressed-crushed that both sides of 2a and 2b facing each other are flat formed or depressed.
