PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method effective in improving the primary rust prevention and coating adhesion of a hot dip galvanized product, and to provide a hot dip galvanized article obtained thereby. SOLUTION: In a cooling stage after the dipping of the object to be treated into a hot dip galvanizing bath, and its taking up therefrom, cooling water comprises organic acid or amines forming a hardly water-soluble salt with zinc on the zinc surface.
