An image reproduction apparatus and method for supporting the smart search of motion are provided to analyze a change of a frame during the reproduction of an image, thereby enabling a user to move the location of an image having a desired motion and reproduce the image quickly. An input image encoding unit(210) receives and encodes input image data and extracts motion vectors corresponding to each frame of the encoded image data. A storage unit stores the image data and motion vectors. A reproduction unit selects and reproduces data which moves in a preset search region out of the extracted motion vectors.
