PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin sorter efficiently and stably sorting coins according to outer color and surface shape. SOLUTION: The coin sorter has: a depositing part 20 for coins C to be sorted; a sending part 30 for sending out each coin C to be sorted that are deposited into the depositing part 20; an inspection part 40 connected to the sending part 30; an image pickup part 50 disposed at the inspection part 40 for applying light whose wavelength has a bandwidth of 400 to 500 nm to the coin surface C1 of each coin to be sorted and imaging the coin surface C1; an image processing part 60 for performing image processing in response to a signal from the image pickup part 50; an identifying part 70 for identifying the outer color and the surface shape of the coin surface C1 according to data in the image processing part 60 and in comparison to predetermined ones; and a sorting part 80 for sorting the coins to predetermined paths according to results from the identifying part 70.
