PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston seal structure and an air compressor for enhancing the compression efficiency. SOLUTION: When a piston ring 18 receives air pressure in a cylinder chamber in a compression stroke of the air compressor, the lower end 24 of the piston ring 18 is supported by the lower wall surface 19a of a piston ring groove 19 and in this state the upper end 23 of the piston ring 18 is permitted to move downward by a runoff portion 27 in the piston ring groove 19. The end face 23b of the upper end 23 of the piston ring 18 is therefore pressed against the end face 24a of the lower end 24 and the joint 22 of the piston ring 18 is sealed so that the compression efficiency of the air compressor can be enhanced.
