The device (1) has an optical fiber (2) with a light source (5), which is coupled at an end (3). A light detector (8) is coupled to the optical fiber at an end (7). A detection unit is provided for detection of deformation on the basis of changes of intensity of light, which is received from the optical fiber in the light detector. The optical fiber is formed as polymer optical fiber, which is provided with a light emission range that is manipulated with direct writing with respect to a refractive index. An independent claim is also included for a method for production of a fiber-optic bending sensor.
