The method involves evaluating information lying in an access control unit e.g. access router, over associated access authorizations, associated terminals e.g. host, and associated usable services. The state of a connection in a network e.g. wide area network, is signalable to one of the terminals. The state of a system e.g. Microsoft windows (RTM:software operating system), is detected and archived by functions. The state of the connection in the used terminal is indicated to the access authorization. An independent claim is also included for a device for access control of a terminal.
