<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve quality of a reproduction RF signal and a servo control signal. <P>SOLUTION: An optical path of a light beam 40 is changed over between an HD optical path Rh or a BD optical path Rb by switching transmission or reflection of a polarization plane 34A of a polarizing beam splitter 34 by utilizing the difference in polarization direction of the light beam 40.
