PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical isolator and its manufacturing method in which the adhesiveness between a Faraday rotator, polarizer and magnet, and a support member made of metal in a high-temperature and high-humidity environment is improved by cleaning the surface of the support member made of metal beforehand. SOLUTION: In the method of manufacturing the optical isolator, the Faraday rotator, polarizer and magnet are arranged on the support member made of metal whose surface is cleaned and, thereafter, are fixed thereto with an optical adhesive. Therein, the cleaning treatment includes: a first step of etching the support member made of metal under conditions sufficing to dissolve a working deterioration layer and impurities on the surface by immersing the support member made of metal into a mixed acid aqueous solution; a subsequent second step of washing the support member made of metal and removing produced dissolved material and deposit; and a subsequent third step of heating and drying the support member made of metal under such conditions that an oxidized coating film is not substantially re-formed.
