In a modification of the process described in the parent Specification the amount of liquid falling on to the surface is restricted over at least a portion of the path travelled by the discharging opening during the periods of retardation and acceleration at each end of its to and fro stroke. Troughs 3 provided with outlet nozzles 5 are fixed to side plates 4 of the apparatus to collect the excess of the composition. The troughs may be adjustable and of variable width.
