A plasma display device and a driving method thereof are provided to generate a stable discharge by optimizing driving property of the plasma display device. A plasma display device includes a PDP(Plasma Display Panel,100), a sustain driver(124), and a scan driver(123). The PDP includes scan and sustain electrodes. The sustain driver alternately applies negative and positive sustain pulses to the sustain electrodes during a sustain period. The scan driver applies a set-up voltage pulse and a scan voltage pulse to the scan electrodes and applies a positive voltage pulse at the start of the sustain period. The sustain driver applies the negative sustain voltage before the positive sustain voltage to the sustain electrodes during the sustain period.
