A method and an apparatus for reproducing data, a recording medium, and a method and an apparatus for recording data are provided to effectively reproduce a plurality of videos at the same time by separately decoding primary and secondary video streams. A method for decoding a picture-in-picture video data reproduced from a recording medium comprises the steps of: decoding a primary video stream in data reproduced from the recording medium by using a first video decoder(730a); decoding a secondary video stream in reproduced data which represents a picture-in-picture video data regarding the primary video stream by using a second video decoder(730b); and reproducing a main path data stream including the first and second video streams from a data file recorded on the recording medium by separating the primary video and the secondary video stream from the main path data stream based on packet identifiers in data packets of the main path data stream.
