A method for facilitating reducing mercury emissions uses a catalytic bed assembly 24 including at least a first catalytic bed 52. The method includes receiving a flow of gas 22 including mercury at the catalytic bed assembly; injecting 60 a flow of a compound including ammonia and a first mercury oxidizer upstream of the first catalytic bed; and oxidizing the mercury using the mercury oxidizer and the catalytic bed assembly. The first catalytic bed may be a selective catalyst reduction (SCR) catalyst. Preferably an ammonium oxidation catalyst 58 is provided downstream of the SCR catalyst and a second injection port 56 may be provided upstream of the oxidation catalyst. |
