A method and a system for tracking a terminal communication device using an instant messaging is provided to track the terminal communication device by transmitting an instant message to a predetermined user when a SIM/USIM card is changed or the power is applied with a different SIM/USIM card. A method for tracking a terminal communication device having an instant message service function comprises the following steps of: activating a tracking control mode if the tracking control mode setting for tracking the terminal communication device is requested when an unauthorized user to use the terminal communication device is recognized(500); checking whether a SIM(Subscriber Identity module)/USIM(User Services Identity Module) card is changed or not(502); and transmitting a pre-stored IM(Instant Message) to a predetermined receiver terminal communication device, if the SIM/USIM card is changed(508).
