<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a groove for lining an optical fiber by which optical axis deviation is hardly caused between the optical fiber and an optical waveguide core and which is suitable for formation on a quartz substrate. <P>SOLUTION: This optical waveguide module 1 incorporates an optical waveguide substrate 10 and the optical fiber 32. A substrate 11 has a lower order section 11a and a higher order section 11b. One end surface of the optical waveguide core 12 is positioned on the side of the higher order section. The groove 14 extending along with an extension 8 of an optical axis of the optical waveguide core is provided on an upper surface of the lower order section. The tip part of the optical fiber is arranged in the groove. Opening width of the groove is smaller than an outer diameter of the optical fiber. The tip part of the optical fiber is supported by an edge of the groove. Since no clearance is required between an inner surface of the groove and the optical fiber, the optical axis deviation is hardly caused between the optical fiber and the optical waveguide core. Since the inner surface of the groove is not required to be inclined to the upper surface of the substrate as well, the groove can easily be formed even when a material of the substrate is quartz. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
