A drill bit having increased resistance to erosion and hence increased resistance to failure has erosion resistant material in the area surrounding cutter pockets. The drill bit includes a steel bit body having blades (304, figure3), cutter pockets 308 with cutters 310 disposed on the blades and recesses 312 formed in the surface of the cutter pockets. Erosion resistant 316 material is disposed within the recesses. |
