PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce electrode temperature with high efficiency by improving thermal radiation characteristics of an electrode. SOLUTION: The short-arc high-pressure discharge lamp has a pair of electrodes (20, 30) in an arc tube (11), a groove part is formed on at least a part of the sides on at least one electrode (20) of the above described electrodes, a relation between a depth D and a pitch P of the groove is D/P≥2, and the pitch P is from 150 to 500μm.
