<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surrounding monitoring system excellently detecting a motorcycle in a photograph having a four wheel vehicle in the background. <P>SOLUTION: The system extracts an area as an object image area 310 including an object in an image photographed by a camera 2, and distinguishes a motorcycle from four wheel vehicle through image recognition processing for an edge image of the object image area 310. When the motorcycle can not be distinguished through the image recognition processing for the edge image and when a radar 1 is measuring a plurality of relative positions being close to the object image area 310 in both the direction including the object, the system generates a vertical edge-enhanced image 320 by deleting horizontal edges with a predetermined length from the edge image of the object image area 310, and distinguishes the motorcycle through the image recognition processing for the vertical edge-enhanced image 320. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
