PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information recording device which is adapted to efficiently facilitate high-speed information processing by selecting a memory to which information requested can be written at the highest speed from a plurality of semiconductor memories provided as caches to a disk-like storage medium, and a control method therefor. SOLUTION: The device comprises a flash memory 15 and an SDRAM 14 higher in information writing and reading speed than the flash memory as caches to a hard disk 13. When the SDRAM 14 does not have a free space for information to be written, but it is predicted that the free space for the information is formed in the SDRAM 14, it is determined whether the information can be written more quickly to the SDRAM 14 or the flash memory 15, and the information is written to the quicker memory.
