PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain stable fixation property without unnecessarily reducing fixation productivity. SOLUTION: In the fixation control method, the temperature gradient RSVt of a fixing roller 43 is repeatedly measured in a period when one sheet with a toner image transferred to thereto passes through a nip between the fixing rollers 42 and 43, and the rotating speed of the fixing roller is changed in accordance with each temperature gradient repeatedly obtained by the measurement so that the rotating speed V can be reduced when the temperature gradient shows the temperature lowering. The fixation control unit includes: measuring means 45, 64, and ITR/ITRa for repeatedly measuring the temperature gradient of the fixing roller in the period when the one sheet passes through the nip between the fixing rollers; speed instruction changing means 64, and SCP 1 to SCP 4 for changing the speed instruction V to instruct the rotating speed of the fixing roller so that the rotating speed of the fixing roller can be reduced when the temperature gradient shows the temperature lowering; and driving means 65 and 48 for rotationally driving the fixing roller at the rotating speed corresponding to the speed instruction.
