PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bistable display device capable of easily forming and altering a display content and an advertising content and attracting viewer's attention, and to provide an advertising display medium using the bistable display device. SOLUTION: In the bistable display device A provided with a bistable display layer 30 between substrate electrodes wherein a light transmissible electrode 11 formed on a transparent front surface plate 10 and an electrode 21 formed on a rear surface plate 20 are disposed opposite to each other, opaque layers 40 are formed on the surface opposite to the surface of the front surface plate 10 on which the light transmissible electrode is formed.
