PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control method for an automobile showing a sufficient effect reducing harmful component of exhaust gas or making the same harmless, and a great effect improving fuel economy of the automobile, and also to provide an exhaust emission control device reducing weight as much as possible with a simple structure and showing high effect improving fuel economy. SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device is provided with an ultraviolet lamp 3 to irradiate ultraviolet light on a metal heat radiation part 2 of a radiator 1 in an engine room of the automobile. The ultraviolet lamp 3 can irradiate photoelectron activating ultraviolet light including ultraviolet light of critical wavelength having photoelectric effect of metal forming the heat radiation part 2 such as aluminum or shorter.
