PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a useful compound for stimulating bone formation. SOLUTION: Compounds expressed by formula (1) and formula (2) accerelate bone formation, therefore, they are useful for treating osteoporosis, bone fracture or deficiency, primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism, periodontal disease or defect, metastatic bone disease, osteolytic bone disease, post-plastic surgery, post-prosthetic joint surgery and post-dental implantation. The figure 1 shows the structure and activity of several compounds (that is, lovastatin and pravastatin). In the formula (1) and the formula (2), each X denotes a 2-6C substituted or nonsubstituted alkylene, alkenylene or alkynylene linker; Y denotes one or more carbocyclic rings or heterocyclic rings, if Y contains two or more rings, the ring may be condensed, if needed; R' denotes a cation, H or a 1-6C substituted or nonsubstituted alkyl; the dotted line denotes an arbitraryπ-bond.
