PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for immobilizing a protein by which nonspecific adsorption can be suppressed without reducing covalently bondable amino groups when immobilizing a protein on a substrate having the amino groups. SOLUTION: The method for immobilizing the protein on the substrate includes using the substrate obtained by treating a carrier with an amino group-containing silicon compound represented by the general formula: (RO)<SB>3</SB>Si-(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>k</SB>-(NHCH<SB>2</SB>CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>n</SB>-NH<SB>2</SB>(wherein, R is an alkyl group; k=1, 2, 3...; and n=1, 2, 3...) to introduce the amino groups to the surface of the carrier, and immobilizing the protein through the amino group by immersing the substrate in a protein-containing buffer solution.
