The gas bag module has a gas generator (16), a gas bag (13) held in the housing (10), and a module base, on which a positioning journal (42) is extended. The positioning journal is a front section of a pin (40), which is pressed into the module base under deformation of the module base and under deformation of the pin. A hole is provided in the module base in the area, into which the pin is pressed. The module base consists of a section made of plastic particularly thermoplastic. An independent claim is also included for a method for production of a gas bag module.
