The holding device has a support-like part (3), where another part (5) is connected over a connecting element (4). The later part is a counter contour (7), which is complementary to a part of an outer contour of an exhaust gas system. The counter contour is turned to the former part, which has another counter contour (7'), facing the later part. The gas system (2) is clamped between both parts in the counter contour area. The counter contour is formed for an adjustment movement of the later part and the gas system in a longitudinal direction (8) by detaching the connecting element.
