A DIS(Driver Information System) and a control method thereof are provided to enhance security by tracking a position of a vehicle, irrespective of whether the vehicle is started or not. A MOST(Media Oriented System Transport) network(26) delivers large-size data among inner units and includes position information of a vehicle. A CAN(27) distributively controls the inner units and delivers a head unit activation message for activating a head unit having an embedded GPS(Global Positioning System) module. A telematics terminal(23) performs a self-booting process to activate the CAN(Controller Area Network), when a position request message is received through a wireless communication module from a DIS(Driver Information System) center. The telematics terminal loads a head unit activation message on the CAN, receives the position information from the head unit, and wirelessly transmits the position information. When the head unit activation message is received, the head unit(20) performs a self-booting process to activate the MOST network, and receives the position information from a GPS satellite. The head unit transmits the position information to the telematics terminal through the MOST network.
