PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the reduction in access performance of user data due to patrol diagnosis execution of a display array device with respect to the disk array device. SOLUTION: In a disk array device 2, a disk array storage part 5 provided with a plurality of HDDs 3a to 3n and a disk array control part 4 for controlling a server 1 and the disk array storage part 5 are connected by a FC interface 6a to provide a function of periodically performing patrol diagnosis of the HDDs 3a to 3n, and the disk array storage part 5 includes: a patrol diagnosis start means 31 which generates a patrol diagnosis start indication on the basis of a held patrol diagnosis condition; a diagnostic instruction issuing means 32 which successively issues a diagnosis execution instruction to HDDs 3a to 3n on the basis of the diagnosis condition in response to the start indication; a diagnosis response reception means 33 which receives diagnosis result response of the instruction execution from the HDDs 3a to 3n; and a diagnosis abnormality detection means 34 which determines received diagnosis result responses to detect abnormality of the HDDs 3a to 3n.
