PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle approach determination apparatus and method determining the approach of another vehicle without preparing equipment on the vehicle as well as on the road side. SOLUTION: The vehicle approach recognition apparatus 1 is mounted in one's one vehicle 200 and uses a mirror image pickup camera 10 to pick up images including the mirror surface part 101 of a corner mirror 100. The images obtained are analyzed by an image analysis part 20 to determine the approach of another vehicle. When determining that another vehicle is approaching, the vehicle approach determination apparatus 1 displays a warning mark indicating the approach on a display 30 to warn the driver of the vehicle 200.
