PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium handling device for stably separating, delivering and conveying paper money without generating any crease or defect in the paper money in the device even when curled paper money or paper money which tends to crease is input. SOLUTION: A denomination-categorized stacker 38a and a denomination-categorized stacker 38b are given priority for money payment, and a denomination-categorized stacker 38c and a denomination-categorized stacker 38d are given priority for money reception among a plurality of denomination-categorized stackers. When reception paper money is stored in the denomination-categorized stackers 38c and 38d given priority for money payment, the inside stages are moved to put the reception paper money in a press status. The press status is continued until the next reception paper money is stored. When the residual paper money in the denomination-categorized stackers 38a and 38b given priority for money payment is turned to be predetermined quantity or less, the paper money stored in the denomination-categorized stackers 38c and 38d given priority for money reception after the lapse of a predetermined time is conveyed to the denomination-categorized stackers 38a and 38b given priority for money payment for refilling.
