PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intake system of an internal combustion engine capable of inhibiting the turbulence of an intake air flow and stabilizing the generation of a swirling flow. SOLUTION: The intake system 100 of the internal combustion engine regulates the intake air flow by a cantilevered shut-off valve disposed in an intake pipe. The intake pipe has a first inner wall surface 11 for guiding intake air from the upstream to the downstream and a second inner wall surface 12 formed through a single stepped portion Y so that the inner diameter of the intake pipe is increased on the downstream side of the first inner wall surface 11. The shut-off valve 1 is disposed so that a base end side is rotatably supported to the stepped portion Y and in an open state of opening the inside of the intake pipe, the first inner wall surface 11 and the second inner wall surface 12 are connected smoothly.
