PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a space-saving and low-cost cooling device for a gas spring where die components can be also cooled in addition to a gas spring. SOLUTION: A ventilation passage 95 is defined between a cylinder 91 in a gas spring 9 and an outer cylinder 94 externally inserted therein, low temperature air produced with a vortex tube 14 is fed to the ventilation passage 95 as cool air, and the gas spring 9 is cooled. The cool air is jetted from the jet port 96 at the downstream edge of the ventilation passage 95 toward the projecting direction of the piston rod 92 in the gas spring 9, and the first die component 8 connected to the piston rod 92 is cooled. Further, a ventilation passage 17 for cooling the second die component 7 with which the first die component 8 is engaged so as to be freely slidable is provided, the cool air jetted from the jet port 96 is introduced into the ventilation passage 17, and the second die component 7 is cooled as well.
