Intended is to provide a fuel cell system having a regulator arranged in a gas feeding passage for feeding a gas to a fuel cell, with a technique to suppress an excessive pressure rise on the upstream side of the regulator thereby to prevent a malfunction of the regulator. The fuel cell system (1) comprises a fuel cell (2), a fuel gas feeding passage (40) for feeding a fuel gas to the fuel cell (2), an oxidizing gas feeding passage (50) for feeding an oxidizing gas to the fuel cell, a secondary regulator (12) disposed in the fuel gas feeding passage (40), a bypass passage (42) for connecting the upstream-side passage and the downstream-side passage of the secondary regulator (12), and a pressure regulating valve (10) disposed in the bypass passage (42) and adapted to be closed, when the difference between the pressure on the upstream side and the pressure on the downstream side is at a predetermined value or less, and to be opened when the difference exceeds the predetermined value.
