Continuous manufacture of multi-axially laid band used industrially as technical textile, employs two parallel tensile strands as removable formers

Fibrous material (4) is wound around a notional plane limited by tensioning strands (6, 7), to form the band. Once the band has been wound, these are removed from it or detached. The band and strands are subjected to an impregnation- or fixing process. The strands are separable by cutting the edges. They are recycled to the winding process. The unidirectionally-laid material (5) is wound by rotating rollers (2, 3) around the strands (6, 7) which form and advance the multi-directional band. A rotating winding unit is used with fixed laying rollers (2, 3), to wind the band using the tensioning strands for support. The calender rollers (12, 13) include grooves (14, 15, 16, 17) to guide the strands. Laid material remaining on the strands following separation, is wiped off. The edges are seamed after separating the strands. The strands are roughened. They are wires or strips of metal or plastic. They are preferably made from the laid material itself. An adhesive coating is used on them. An adherent thread mesh is wound-on and led between the strands. It bonds the fibrous materials together. The strands are recycled. The fibrous material used to make the band is glass, carbon, aramide, natural fiber, flax, jute, sisal, carbon, polypropylene, PBO, polyester or polyethylene. The calender includes a separation unit for the strands, which makes side cuts in the wound material. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR corresponding equipment.
