PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new amphiphilic substance, nano-particles exhibiting excellent biocompatibility as a nano-carrier by using the new amphiphilic substance, a drug delivery system, a probe useful in the system, a molecule imaging system and a probe useful in the system.

SOLUTION: The amphiphilic substance of an amphiphilic block polymer having a hydrophilic block and a hydrophobic block, wherein the hydrophilic block is a hydrophilic polypeptide chain containing≥10 sarcosine units and the hydrophobic block is a hydrophobic molecular chain having≥5 essential constitution units each containing a unit selected from amino acid units and hydroxylic acid units.
