PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of always executing proper clamp processing without being affected by smear even on the occurrence of the smear and to provide a clamp method thereof. SOLUTION: A signal level of an output signal for a transfer period for a vertical OB region 3b is compared with a threshold value of a predetermined smear level while a CCD is driven. When the signal level is the threshold value or below, an imaging signal is clamped at an output signal level for a transfer period of a horizontal OB region 3c, and when the signal level exceeds the threshold value, the imaging signal is clamped at a signal level of an output signal of a dummy register 35 of a horizontal transfer section so as to ensure a black level.
