PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backrest attaching structure in a chair, which is capable of adjusting the backrest, making the width in the right/left direction smaller than a back rod, forming a compact attaching part with excellent outside appearance, and reducing the cost of manufacture by simplifying the attaching part. SOLUTION: The backrest 6 has a pair of right and left back rods 11b extended downward from a seat body 5 at the lower part of the backrest, and engagement projection lines 15 projecting in the longitudinal direction of the respective back rods 11b are formed on the opposite faces 14 of the back rods 11b facing each other. The attaching part 7 is provided under the seat body 5, and engaged parts 23 are formed on right and left sides of the attaching part 7 to be fitted the respective fitting projection lines 15 slidably in the longitudinal direction to attach the respective back rods 11b.
