PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bristle material for a brush, which is excellent in the capability of removing dirt, washing and applying a paint. SOLUTION: The bristle material 1 for the brush is made of a synthetic resin mono-filament with a helical recess 2 and/or projection 3 formed in the longitudinal direction of the outer peripheral surface. When the bristle material 1 is used for a brush or the like for washing (not shown in Fig.), the recess 2 or projection 3 is brought into contact with a surface to be washed, so that the frictional force is increased and dirt can be efficiently scraped out. As a liquid such as a washing liquid is retained in the helically formed recess 2 or projection 3 in washing, the washing performance of the brush is improved. When the bristle material 1 is used for a brush for painting (not shown in Fig.), the paint is retained in the helically formed recess 2 or projection 3, so that dripping of the paint can be prevented, and at the same time, the paint can be evenly and thoroughly applied.
