A plurality of symbols is displayed, each of the plurality of symbols located in a cell of an array. In response to at least one of the plurality of symbols achieving a winning outcome, a player is awarded a winning award and a background of a cell associated with the winning outcome is modified. Also, the modification of the background causes an alteration in the wagering game.
