The device has a housing (1) through which exhaust gas flows, and a resonance device (2) and a control device (3) are arranged in the housing. A part of an exhaust gas stream (5) that flows into the housing through an exhaust gas inlet opening (9) is deviated by the resonance device. The control device has a rotatable roller (6) with a passage, and the resonance device has a conduit that is designed as a pipe (8). The control and resonance devices act together such that a part of the exhaust gas stream is deviated into the passage and through the conduit based on the position of the roller. An independent claim is also included for a method for generating certain exhaust gas frequency in an exhaust gas system.
