The device (10) has an optical sensor (12) for measuring distance of a moving target object (20) to a reference position (30). An evaluation unit (14) is connected with the sensor and evaluates measured data provided by the sensor. The evaluation unit provides a positioning signal. An acceleration sensor (16) e.g. sensor operated according to piezo-effect, is arranged at or in the target object for measuring acceleration of the target object. The acceleration sensor is connected with the unit for providing the signal in consideration of measuring data of the acceleration sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining position of a moving target object.
