Provided is a fiber web comprising polymer fiber having an average fiber diameter of about 20 to 5000 nm, where the polymer fiber comprises a polyare nazole polymer having an inherent viscosity of greater than about 20g/dl and the fiber web has a basis weight of from about 0.1 to 200 grams per square meter. Also provided are articles comprising such webs and methods of prepar ing such webs.
