An article storage facility comprises an article storage shelf in which storage parts are arranged vertically and in parallel with the lateral direction of the shelf, a stacker crane (5) for conveying articles between the storage parts and an article carrying-in/carrying-out position, and a controller for controlling the operation of the stacker crane (5). Each article transfer device (14) of the stacker crane (5) is capable of moving relatively to each lift (13) between a first position near a first column (12a) and a second position near a second column (12a) in the lateral direction of the shelf.
