<p>A swab device is provided for the collection of a sample, the device comprising a head, a stem and a holder, wherein the holder comprises locating means disposed at a predetermined distance along the holder, and wherein said locating means are adapted to be securely gripped by automated or semi-automated transfer means for transfer of the swab device between stations.
