An equalizer and an equalization method are provided to calculate the average of previous noise variance and present noise variance to perform accurate channel compensation in spite of a long ghost channel. An equalization method comprises the steps of calculating the size of a channel transfer function, adding the size of the channel transfer function to the SNR of a received signal, multiplying a conjugate complex of the channel transfer function by the frequency of the received signal, and dividing the size of the channel transfer function by the added value. The SNR of the received signal is calculated from pseudo noise duration of the received signal. The SNR of the received signal is calculated based on the noise of a duration excluding the PN duration of the received signal.
