468,348. Ambulance vehicles. NICOU, H. T. Feb. 6, 1937, No. 3637. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1936. [Class 108 (i)] In ambulance vehicles of the kind having a box for housing a reserve stretcher, a wall, walls, or part of the wall of the box is adapted to be moved into a horizontal position for supporting a stretcher at such a level as to permit another stretcher at a lower position. As shown, a box 4 housing a reserve stretcher 5 about the wheel housing is provided with a lateral wall 6 and integral top wall 7 which is guided by end pins 8 in slot guides 9 so that they can be raised and moved into horizontal position when the pins enter the offset parts 10 of the guides, the lower ends of the wall being adapted to engage the lateral wall 1 of the vehicle and come against stops 12. A second stretcher 15 is shown in a lower position. In modifications, the lateral wall 6 and top wall 7 may be hinged in sections and the guides may be of ratchet-and-pawl type, while several offset portions 10 may be provided to adjust the height of the horizontal wall. In another form, the rear end guide and stop may be adjustable to permit the support bed of the stretcher to be inclined to the rear to facilitate the handling of the patient after which the rear end may be raised.
